After four years of disruption from COVID-19 and the war, thousands of children in Tigray have fallen behind in their education. A primary school will provide a safe, stable environment for them to return to learning and regain a sense of normalcy. This school will also act as a hub for community development through after-school programs
After four years of disruption from COVID-19 and the war, thousands of children in Tigray have fallen behind in their education. A primary school will provide a safe, stable environment for them to return to learning and regain a sense of normalcy. This school will also act as a hub for community development through after-school programs focused on trauma healing, allowing us to integrate our original vision into this new direction. By prioritizing Tigray education, we are addressing both the immediate educational crisis and supporting the community’s long-term recovery.

Initially, our objective was to establish a trauma-healing community center, as advocated by local leaders and residents. However, the circumstances on the ground have evolved significantly. Nearby schools are currently accommodating internally displaced people (IDPs), resulting in classrooms with more than 100 students for each teacher.
Initially, our objective was to establish a trauma-healing community center, as advocated by local leaders and residents. However, the circumstances on the ground have evolved significantly. Nearby schools are currently accommodating internally displaced people (IDPs), resulting in classrooms with more than 100 students for each teacher. Additionally, many educational facilities were damaged during the war, leaving families without safe or accessible spaces for learning. In light of this, the Embasenayti administrators and the Tigray Education Bureau have requested that we shift our focus to prioritize the construction of a primary school. Our commitment to community development drives us to adapt our plans in order to address the community's most pressing needs, including the need for trauma healing programs.

Community Development: Strengthen Nebelet and surrounding communities by offering skills training, creating jobs, and building a sustainable local economy centered around education.
